This Sunday during service we sang “You Deserve It” by J.J. Hairston & Youthful Praise. The song starts off,
My hallelujah belongs to You (Repeat 4x)
You deserve it
You deserve it
You deserve it
You deserve it
As I was singing this song, I began asking myself, “Why does He deserve it?” “Why am I singing Hallelujah?” Automatically Romans 7 came to mind. It reminds me of the inner struggle all of us have experienced at some point in our lives and I so familiar with.
We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.
Romans 7:14-17
I was once trapped in sin. Feeling so far away from God and helpless. I was lost with no where to turn. However, this same chapter gives us our solution and hope.
Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.
Romans 7:25
Jesus set me free. I don’t have to sin anymore. It doesn’t master me. Through Christ sacrifice and through the power of the Spirit I can live for him. I am free indeed. This is one of the many reasons he deserves my hallelujah. He deserves your hallelujah too.
