“In the desert the whole community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The Israelites said to them, ‘If only we had died by the Lord ’s hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.”

Every time I read the scripture, I get upset. I think to myself, “How could they be so ungrateful?” Here is a people who have been in slavery for over 400 years. God showed signs, wonders and miracles and yet the moment there is a sign of trouble, they are constantly all too ready to go back. It’s a smack in God’s face. It is in essence telling him, “You are not good enough. “
However, this scripture also challenges me. I may have never literally said, “I want to go back.” but my actions have said otherwise. There are times where I have chosen things or people or just old ways instead of choosing God and his way. In my actions, I have stated “God is not good enough.”
Let us remember that God is always good, even when it gets rough in our life. Even when it may be hard, or we want go back, or just do it our way, God’s way is always better. May we always live a life that proclaims, “Lord you are good, and your mercies endure forever.”
